Yesterday was a loooooong day. I woke up at about 5:40am and showered and got ready to go to the airport. I got there at around 7:20am, and my flight left at 8:35, so I went through security and did the whole “hurry up and wait” thing. Five hours of cattle-car airlines and two packed planes later, I arrived at the Seattle airport. Now, Seattle is two hours behind Kansas, so even though it felt to me like mid-afternoon, it was barely noon here.

My dad picked me up at the airport, and we went by his office for a few hours so he could catch up on some missed work (he’s been recovering from being sick earlier this week). He took me around and introduced me to a lot of the people that he works with. A few of them, his boss included, seem to be rather excited that I’m here. I think they really want to try and talk me into staying, but after seeing some of the dynamic between the office and the type/pace of the work, I think I can say pretty confidently that I won’t be interested in anything.

They ordered pizza for the people who were here around dinnertime, so we stuck around and ate some of that. After eating, we wrapped up pretty quickly and left for the day. On the way back to my dad’s apartment, we stopped at the most upscale grocery store I have ever seen. In Kansas, Safeway stores are somewhat lower-end, but this store was amazing. They had a parking garage and an elevator. I was somewhat surprised to see that there weren’t valets parking cars and loading groceries for people. It wouldn’t have been out of place in this store.

Once back at my dad’s place, we sat around and watched some TV before I got to the point of passing out. I went to bed around 11pm (1am in Kansas… nearly a 20 hour day), finally in Washington… I think it’s going to be a good trip.
