Vacation: Day 3

I talked to Becca last night, and I remember only bits and pieces of our conversation. Apparently I can be very entertaining when I am half asleep. It would seem that my brain-mouth filter turns itself off, so anything I am thinking comes right out without being censored. I will have to figure out a way to coerce Becca into telling me everything I was saying.

Vacation: Day 2

Well, I didn’t sleep too well last night, but I think that was mainly due to the fact that I am really not used to sleeping in a twin bed. Ah well, I am sure that I will sleep well tonight.

Vacation: Day 1

I am posting this the next morning, because I was far too exhausted last night to do so. The first day of my Colorado trip went extremely well. It was, however, an obscenely long day overall.

The KC Swing Scene

What follows is meant to serve as a response, though not necessarily a rebuttal, to this Facebook note. Feel free to read that before continuing. You don’t necessarily have to know all of the people involved, and my rantings and ravings thoughts on the situation are independent enough that you don’t have to read that note if you don’t feel like it.

What a week…

Man, this has been a strange week so far. Let’s work backwards, shall we? Today, we got our salary increase letters. Mine wasn’t quite what I was hoping for (and what I had been led to expect), but it was still decent — no complaints here.

Going back to school!

I am going back to school! After spending some time as a student, messing around, then having to drop out, I will finally be back at school this fall. I will be taking a pre-calculus class to get back into the swing of things, and I think it will be interesting.

Moving woes

For those who don’t know about my moving situation, it goes a little like this:

Last fall, I talked to the management at my complex about moving into a bigger apartment. We set everything up so that when a few of my friends moved out of their apartment this fall, and all was kosher. Then, about three months ago, management changed at the complex, and everything was thrown into a big bag of #*$!. At the same time, Tyler, one of my friends currently living in the apartment that I will be getting, mentioned to me that they may be moving out at the end of April instead of July. We worked everything out with the complex, and just needed to finish the final paperwork when one of Tyler’s roommates backed out, saying he didn’t have time to move then. We talked about pushing the whole process back a month to the end of May, but Tyler and his roommates dragged their feet too long. So it began to look like I would move in August like originally planned.

Summer time!

You know it’s summer time when you hear the familiar sound of the ice cream truck driving down the street. It just brings back all kinds of good memories of childhood and that feeling you got running down the middle of the street, cars whizzing by, clutching a dollar bill in your hand just to get a taste of an overpriced bomb pop.

Of course, that didn’t stop me from chasing the ice cream truck down just now. The fact that I have popsicles and ice cream in my freezer is irrelevant.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

After installing my new blog, I started working on converting my whole site over to PHP. Halfway through *that* process, I decided to go with Object Oriented Programming. Simply put, OOP helps separate different aspects of code into manageable chunks, called objects (or classes). I just want to say that nobody – and I mean nobody – should make such massive change in the middle of a project. I had pretty much converted my entire “Family & Friends” photo gallery over to PHP when I decided to do this. So now I get to rewrite it *again*.

The good news is that once I have done this, it will be easier for me to update my site overall. Style/layout changes will be simpler and more straightforward, and (in theory), my code will be neater and more manageable. I suppose I just have to survive the initial transition.

New Blog Software

Well, I have finished installing a new blog software to my site. Unfortunately, the one I was writing just kept turning into more and more work. I went with an open-source PHP solution called Serendipity. So far I am quite happy with the results. It was fairly simple to integrate with my layout and offers more features than I will probably ever need from my blog. So yeah, good stuff.
