It’s been quite awhile since I posted anything, but that’s ok. The end of last semester was not very pleasant for me, and I was focusing all my energy on just making it through. After the semester ended, I took some time off work, visited family in Florida, and just relaxed.

It’s almost 6am, and I have yet to go to sleep. At this point, I don’t plan to, of course, but I certainly want to. I have lost track of how many all-nighters I’ve pulled so far this semester, and the way things are looking I will be surprised if I average less than one a week for the remainder of the semester.
It’s no secret that this semester has been pretty difficult for me, but even that feels like an understatement much of the time. I believe I can safely say, without any hesitation, that this semester is the hardest I have ever had in every way. The classes are harder, I am taking more credit hours than I should, I’m dealing with extra academic misconduct crap that is sapping my will to do anything other than quit, and I have some of (in my opinion) the worst teachers I have had so far in my academic career.
Put it all together, and it makes for an extraordinarily stressful time. I’m getting through (so far), but every day is more difficult than the one before, and I have less desire to continue on top of that. I just hope my will to get a degree sustains me for the next five weeks. Heaven knows energy drinks won’t be enough to do it by themselves.
This will be a nice short post. Today in my Environmental Conservation class (which is not nearly as interesting as you might think… zzzzzzz), our teacher started discussing the final exam next week. Here’s basically how it went down:
Teach: The final exam will consist of 9 or 10 short essay questions. You’ll pick 6 to answer with a few paragraphs each. The lecture notes are all online for you to study.
Random Student #1: Will we be able to print the lecture notes to use during the exam?
Teach: No. It will be closed-book and closed-note.
Random Student #2: Should we bring a bluebook*?
Teach: ….. Wow. Until you brought up the bluebook, I hadn’t realized just how much I was going to have to grade. I don’t want to do that much. I’m making it a take-home exam.
Class: (Cheers wildly)
*In case you don’t know, a bluebook is essentially a small stack (10-15 pages) of bound college-ruled paper. It is used in a lot of classes for final exams for writing in-class essays.
So there you have it. Random Student #2, you are my hero for today!
As I get ready to start the next (and possibly hardest) step in my college journey, I want to bring you (the people of the interwebs who may visit this site in the future… though not necessarily the three people who currently read my blog) up to speed.
After coming back to school in Fall 2008, I have taken 14 classes totaling 51 credit hours. It’s not quite a full-time load, but by taking summer classes I am managing to stay relatively on track. In addition to just taking classes, I have been admitted to KU’s School of Engineering as a Computer Science major.
In the Spring ’11 semester, I may have my biggest challenges yet. I am taking 3 classes for 11 credit hours – nearly full time – while working my full-time job at KU, working with Nick on Eternal Second projects (I need to write an update about how that’s picking up as well!), and increasing the amount of freelance work that I am doing. Sadly, I’m not taking easy classes; one of them has been described to me as the “hardest class I will have in my entire time at KU”.
But I’m going to do it. I will kick ass this semester – and probably have a minor break down at least once. At the end of it, I know I will come out the victor.
So that’s the latest on the school front. If all goes well and stays on track, I should be graduating at the end of the Spring ’13 semester. That’s right, only two years to go!
Catch you later.
I am going back to school! After spending some time as a student, messing around, then having to drop out, I will finally be back at school this fall. I will be taking a pre-calculus class to get back into the swing of things, and I think it will be interesting.
